Urban Stages celebrated their 35th Annual Benefit evening on Wednesday May 15th at the Central Park Boat House, celebrating Woman in the arts.
The first recipient was Broadway actress Donna Murphy (alternate in Hello, Dolly for Bette Midler). She is the recipient of two Tony Awards (Passion, The King and I) and has appeared in such shows as Wonderful Town, Follies and Anyone Can Whistle at Encores. Ms. Murphy received three Drama Desk Awards and two Outer Critics Circle Awards. She was the voice of Mother Bothel in Disney’s Tangle, along with numerous other movies and TV appearances. Bernadette Peters presented Donna with the award.
The second recipient was Edwina Sandys, artist sculptor, whose work is seen all over the world, For the “Year of the Child” she created works for the UN Center in Vienna in 1989. PBS did a documentary about her – One Bite of the Apple.
Some of the previous award recipients included Jim Dale, Tommy Tune, Tony Walton and KT Sullivan.
