The press was invited for a sneak peek with the cast and creatives of Kid Victory, the new musical by John Kander (Four time Tony Award Winner) and Greg Pierce (The Landing), directed by Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed) set to open at the Vineyard Theatre on February 22nd; previews begin February 1.
When 17 year old Luke (Brandon Flynn) returns to his small Kansas town after a heart breaking one year absence, he develops a friendship with the town misfit Emily (Dee Roscioli). His parents – Karen Ziemba and Daniel Jenkins – must now confront truths about his disappearance that are unnerving in order to truly find him. Luke also has a complicated relationship with Michael (Jeffry Denman). The cast also includes Ann Arvia, Joel Blum, Laura Darrell and Blake Zolfo.
Each of the cast members we spoke with won’t reveal much. But we do know that Kander & Pierce are a truly collaborative team that develop ideas through imagination and initial curiosity, that become generative through music and theater. Liesl Tommy appears to be the perfect choice for director as she chooses to direct pieces that implement goals of people striving for freedom and finding ways to be in the world.
Here’s what they have to say!
Choreography is by Christopher Windom, scenic design by Clint Ramos, costumes by Jacob Climer, lighting by David Weiner and sound design by peter Hylenski. David Loud is music supervisor, with Michael Starobin as orchestrator and Jesse Kissel as music director.
