Looks like celebrities from Broadway are planning to bring the iconic Fiddler on the Roof to the movie screen . . . again. Did you know that Lin-Manuel Miranda is a big fan of Fiddler? He will be collaborating with his Broadway director Thomas Kail, along with Steven Levenson (Dear Evan Hanson) who will write the screenplay.
MGM is scheduled to produce the 1964 remake carrying forth the Broadway tradition of 50 years that starred Zero Mostel as Tevye, winning 9 Tony Awards. It ran for almost 10 years.
The original screen version received 3 Oscars when it opened, bringing Topol (as Tevye) a nomination for best actor.
Fiddler has had an amazing history on Broadway when, in 2015, it appeared again starring Danny Burstein in the coveted role and more recently Yiddish Fiddler (Stephen Skybell as Tevye) and, to many, the most authentic rendering, was ensconced off Broadway winning numerous ovations and awards.
Who will play the title role in this movie remake?
