Maurice Hines passed on December 29th, a tap dancing legend, and brother of Gregory Hines who passed in 2003.

He had been living at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, N.J. Maurice made his Broadway debut in The Girl in the Pink Tights in 1954, and appeared in Eubie!, Sophisticated Ladies, Bring Back Birdie and Uptown … It’s Hot! He began working when he was 5 years old. He played Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls (2001 Tour) with Debbie Allen, Leslie Uggams and Richard Roundtree. He was Captain Jones in Encores! House of Flowers in 2003.

In 2016 he appeared off Broadway and around the country in Maurice Hines: Tappin’ Through Life – a life tribute of funny and heart-rending experiences about life with Ella, Frank, Duke, Lena Horne and Judy Garland. Maurice and Gregory starred together in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Cotton Club. RIP
