Hamilton and The Rockefeller Foundation welcomed 1,300 Students to Exclusive Student Matinee of HAMILTON on Broadway
by Sandi Durell
The innovative educational program that launched last year at HAMILTON on Broadway returned on Wednesday, October 25 when 1,300 students and teachers from NYC area Public Schools attend the matinee performance of the musical on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Theater Pizzazz’ Anna Letson was present to capture the event in photos.
The October 25th performance was the first all-student matinee performance in NYC of the fall that provided more than 15,000 NYC area high school students the opportunity to experience the musical HAMILTON after having spent several weeks in their classrooms studying American history through a special integrated curriculum about Alexander Hamilton and the nation’s Founding Fathers.
In addition to seeing a performance of HAMILTON, students participated in a Q&A with members of the HAMILTON cast. As well, students representing various schools in attendance performed an original work they created based on their classroom studies – songs, rap, poetry, scenes, monologues – on Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre stage in front of their peers.
