After vacillating on whether the theaters would darken for a one minute tribute to Joan Rivers, The Broadway League decided to turn around a former decision not to do so .At 6:45 pm the lights dimmed for one minute.
Our gal Maryann Lopinto made a decision to go to the Helen Hayes where Joan Rivers did her broadway show SALLY MARS. There she found Tom Andora, Jim Caruso, John McDaniel, Max Von Esson, and a lot of other familiar faces. Across the street over the marquee of MAMMA MIA at the Broadhurst, they projected the announcement with Joan’s picture. When the lights went out instead of silence for the minute, there was huge applause and bravos and, of course, a standing ovation. What dawned on me a little later was that this was a double salute as before Joan did SALLY MARS at the Helen Hayes, she was a replacement in the Broadway Show BROADWAY BOUND at the Broadhurst.
