Theodore Bikel was honored in a one-night only concert at Symphony Space on December 2nd.
Bikel was joined on Stage by Fyvush Finkel for a memorable scene from “Fiddler on the Roof” spoken and sung in Yiddish. The enjoyment of these two seasoned performers reunited on stage thrilled the sold out crowd. When the two sang “To Life,” the enthusiastic audience joined in singing and clapping. It was evident that Bikel and Finkel were happy to be performing together again. They made Tevye and the Tailor come to life once more. One of the most memorable moments came when Bel Kaufman confessed that she was in love with Theodore Bikel. The evening ended with the next generation of Yiddish performers taking the stage. Students form the Ramaz school in New York City joined musical director Zalme Mlotek in Yiddish songs giving hope to keeping the language and songs alive.
