NewYorkRep, in association with New Light Theater Project, presents War Words, a world premiere production of a new docu-play by Michelle Kholos Brooks (H*tler’s Tasters). The limited six-week engagement, directed by NewYorkRep Artistic Director Sarah Norris (H*tler’s TastersEverything is Super Great), launchesVeteran’s Day weekend, November 10, and runs through Dec. 17 at A.R.T./New York (502 W. 53rdStreet). War Words is a docu-play in the words of the men and women who served in the U.S. Military during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Based on the playwright’s interviews with veterans of the 20-year Long War and their families, War Words is composed of heroic and heartbreaking stories of the veterans, families, and allies of people who served: those who came home, and those who were left behind. Ensemble Studio Theatre (Estefanía Fadul and Graeme Gillis, Co-Artistic Directors) announced complete casting for their season opener, REDWOOD by Youngblood alum Brittany K. Allen and directed by EST member artist Mikhaela Mahony. Previews will begin October 18 and run through November 18, with a press opening on October 26. REDWOOD was originally slated for April of 2020, after being developed while Brittany K. Allen was a member of Youngblood, and was delayed because of Covid. Tickets are now on sale, with Early Bird pricing of $20 available until October 17 only, and are available at ensemblestudiotheatre.org/redwood.

The recipients for The 1/52 Project, the financial grant program founded by Tony Award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt have been announced. The second round of seven early-career designer recipients will benefit from $88,000 in grants. Applicants were chosen based on talent, creativity, innovation, and potential for future excellence in the professional theatrical field, and each of the inaugural recipients will receive grants up to $15,000. An Award Reception is planned for Wednesday, September 27 at West Bank Café’s Beechman Theatre, sponsored by Hudson Scenic Studio.
