Acclaimed Mexican husband and wife duo Jaime Lozano and Florencia Cuenca will headline FRIGID New York’s 2nd annual Days of the Dead Festival with their show Mi Ofrenda, Mis Canciones, a magical night of music and song, at The Kraine Theater (85 E 4th St, New York, NY 10003) on Sunday, October 22 at 8pm. Tickets ($25) are available for advance purchase at www.frigid.nyc. The performance, which is also available to livestream, will run approximately 75 minutes, with no intermission. 

Tony Award Winners Julie White and Brandon Uranowitz will join Tony Nominee Ato Blankson-Wood (Hamlet, Slave Play) for a one-night-only benefit staged reading of Moises Kaufman and the Members of Tectonic Theatre Project’s The Laramie Project, directed by Dustin Wills (Wolf Play, Wet Brain). The event, which will raise funds to support the work of The Trevor Project, will take place on Monday, October 16th at 7:00 PM at Peter Norton Symphony Space, and is being produced by District Productions. MasterVoices opens its 2023-24 season on November 3 and 4 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater, with three performances of a concert staging of Stephen Sondheim and Burt Shevelove’s The Frogs, as adapted by Nathan Lane. Ted Sperling, celebrating his tenth season as MasterVoices’ Artistic Director, directs and conducts the 120–member MasterVoices chorus, an 18-piece orchestra, and an all-star cast of MasterVoices favorites. In addition to the two performances initially announced for Saturday, November 4, MasterVoices has added a third performance on Friday, November 3, at 8 PM. 

Based on his controversial but acclaimed 1979 novel, Leslie Epstein’s King of the Jews will get its Off Broadway debut this fall, beginning October 24, opening October 28, and running through November 19 at HERE Arts Center (145 6th Ave, New York, NY 10013). This production is being presented by Parkman Productions.  

One night after curfew in the Astoria Café, a group of waiters and cooks and entertainers, along with a spare rabbi or two, are forced by the German occupiers to form a Judenrat, a group of self-governing Jews who will thenceforth govern the lives—and determine the deaths—of their co-religionists in the ghetto that surrounds them.
