What many people know about Emily Dickinson, they learned from watching Julie Harris’ portrayal of the famed poet in William Luce’s play “The Belle of Amherst.” Now, that popular solo show is getting its first New York City revival, beginning on October 7, at the Westside Theatre (407 West 43rd Street).
This time around, the formidable task of bringing Dickinson’s words come to life is being taken on by award-winning stage and screen star Joely Richardson (daughter of Vanessa Redgrave and the late film director Tony Richardson), who told Theater Pizzazz at a September 12 press event that this is not just her first solo show, but probably her last. (Who knows, she might change her mind).
Take a peek at more of what Richardson, the show’s director, Steve Cosson, and producer Don Gregory (who also produced the original Broadway production of the piece) had to tell us.
