The freaks are back on Broadway!
The 1997 fan favorite “Side Show” is set for a second mounting on the Great White Way – in a revised version – beginning on October 28 at the St. James Theatre, with an official opening set for November 17. This new production is directed by Bill Condon, best known for the film version of “Dreamgirls.”
The show stars Erin Davie and Emily Padgett as the real-life conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton, who gained fame on the vaudeville circuit while seeking love off-stage, along with Ryan Silverman, Matthew Hydzik and David St. Louis.
At an October 17 sneak peek, Theater Pizzazz got a chance to see the musical’s classic opening number “Come Look at the Freaks” (led by Robert Joy), as well as speak to co-creator Bill Russell, set designer David Rockwell, costume designer Paul Tazewell, and makeup designer Cookie Jordan, who let us in on a little secret about the show’s “tattooed lady.”
