Yes, it’s true the Edison Cafe (mostly known as the Polish Tea Room) on West 47th Street – the gathering place for theater folks for umpteenth years, a place to see and be seen will be gone by year’s end! And many who have waited on line to get in are up in arms with picket signs.
It has nothing to do with the mostly grimy plastic menus, or bland lifeless iceberg lettuce salads or greasy thin burgers. You ordered soup – the chosen pleasure, and then you paid cash. The waiters and waitresses were sometimes pleasant, albeit as lifeless as the iceberg lettuce. My personal favorites: Matzo Ball soup and Matzo Brie.
