MTC (Manhattan Theatre Club) held press previews to interview and photograph the incoming cast of Saint Joan. Starring is three time Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad (A Doll’s House, Part 2) as Joan, one of history’s greatest heroines, in Bernard Shaw’s epic. It is directed by Daniel Sullivan. Joining Rashad is Walter Bobbie – making the theatrical director’s first return to Broadway as an actor in over 20 years; Adam Chanler-Berat (Peter and the Starcatcher), Jack Davenport (Smash), John Glover (Fire and Air, The Cherry Orchard), Patrick Page (Casa Valentina), Daniel Sunjata (The Country House), Maurice Jones (Linda), Russell G. Jones (Ruined), Max Gordon Moore (Indecent), Matthew Saldivar (Important Hats of the 20th Century), Robert Stanton (Fuddy Meers), Lou Sumrall (Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune).
Designing are Scott Pask (scenic), Jane Greenwood (costumes), Justin Townsend (lighting), Obadiah Eaves (sound), Christopher Ash (projection), Tom Watson (hair & wig), Bill Frisell (original music), Deborah Hecht (dialect coach), Tommy Kurzman (make-up).
Saint Joan is a timeless and powerful play that dramatizes the limits of an individual in a society dominated by overwhelming political and religious forces.
Saint Joan opens in previews on April 3 ahead of an official opening on April 25 at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.
