There are an untold number of Broadway musicals and more soon to be seen on the big screen. And movie fans, come 2021 and beyond, will be wading through some of the best. Imagine, like the good old days, going to the movies with friends and family . . . those popcorn eating days!
First on the agenda scheduled in June 2021 is Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony winner “In The Heights” with an all star cast including. In December, look for Steven Spielberg’s remake of Leonard Bernstein/Stephen Sondheim’s “West Side Story’ with some all time favorites Ariana DeBose, Brian D’Arcy James, Maddie Ziegler.
London’s well talked about “Everybody’s Talking About Jamie” doesn’t have a release date as yet – the story about a teenage drag queen.
And that’s not all! Expect to see “Tick, Tick . . . Boom!” written by Jonathan Larson and directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Great cast including Vanessa Hudgens, Robin de Jesus, Joshua Henry, Judith Light for starters.
“Dear Evan Hansen” is in line for movie fans, helmed by Steven Chbosky, who wrote musical screenplays for “Rent” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Ben Platt will reprise his leading Tony winning performance with an “A” cast including Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, Kaitlyn Dever, Danny Pino.
In the works for musical films are “Cyrano” (with Peter Dinklage) and “Little Mermaid” with Daveed Diggs, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem. And Jason Robert Brown’s “13: the Musical” as well.
