MELISSA ERRICO has a brand new show! On Sunday April 2 @ 7 PM, she’ll be premiering Terminal Ingenue: The Mis-Education of Melissa Errico at the Green Room 42 which will feature songs by Lerner & Loewe, Kurt Weill & Ogden Nash, Cole Porter, Michel Legrand – and of course, her beloved friend Stephen Sondheim.
With the racy wit and smiling mischief that has delighted readers of her columns in The New York Times in the past six years, Melissa Errico will sing her way through her own history, on Broadway and off. Falling in love with the theater at the ripe age of twelve, her journey — under the watchful guise of her Italian American mother, grandmother and Ziegfeld Follies aunt– takes her through her precocious appearance as Eliza in the last Broadway revival of “My Fair Lady,” her triumphs in “One Touch of Venus” and “Amour,” and her struggles with the more equivocal adventures of “High Society“ and “Dracula.” She’ll take a spin through all the wonderful musical workshops that never quite worked. Wryly dubbing herself the “terminal ingenue”, with her ever-fresh prettiness and silver-flute voice sustaining her in ingenue roles until well in her forties and the mother of three, she sings her way right through promise, frustration and absurdity — and then past marriage and into motherhood and on to maturity. In the end, she ceases to be the ‘terminal ingenue’ and becomes the ultimate, grateful girl singer, reveling in the simple act of writing and singing her own exuberant and intellectual shows– everywhere, anywhere and wherever and whenever she can. A special singers’ story, Melissa’s ‘miseducation’ is also an everywoman’s story of silence and song, frustration and eventual fulfillment. Musical Director: Tedd Firth
