Michael Colby (lyricist) will be hosting a much lauded CD launch at The Duplex April 9 at 4 pm featuring stars of theatre and cabaret.

He’s been working tirelessly on the recordings with many of the best in the business. Movieland Musical Tales of Tinseltown and (the complete) madcap Charlotte Sweet will be released on CD April 8. Both feature all-star casts and employ a signature Colby device: each score uses a different musical genre to tell its story. Tales of Tinseltown, which has had several productions uses a 1930s Hollywood movie musical style, and Charlotte Sweet, one of the most acclaimed musicals of 1982 uses British Music Hall turns.

The Tinseltown CD features Christina Bianco, Klea Blackhurst, Nat Chandler, Jake Epstein, Alison Fraser, Harriet Harris, Richard Kind and Tony Yazbeck.

Although several of the above performers cannot be present, just look at the cast of performers who will be there to sing his songs:

Christina Bianco, Nat Chandler, Ben Rauch, Natalie Douglas, Sarah Rice, Adam Shapiro, Rob Langeder, Paul Katz, Stacie Perlman Langeder and Rita Markova will be among the performers celebrating the release of the cast albums for Tales of Tinseltown, Charlotte Sweet and Ludlow Ladd.

The albums are being released by JAY records and can be purchased here; Michael Lavine will be musically directing the evening.

The Duplex Cabaret is located at 61 Christopher Street, Manhattan. Tickets are $12 in advance and can be purchased by calling (800) 316-8559.
