Classic Stage Company’s upcoming season should satisfy anyone passionate about the classics. October 2014 finds Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Allegro,” directed by John Doyle. A little known jewel, it’s always been long considered the R & H most personal and groundbreaking work of musical theater.
Allegro will feature George Abud (Charlie Townsend), Alma Cuervo (Grandma Taylor), Elizabeth A. Davis (Jenny Brinker), Claybourne Elder (Joseph Taylor Jr.), Malcolm Gets (Joe Taylor Sr.), Maggie Lakis (Hazel), Megan Loomis (Beulah), Paul Lincoln (Brook Lansdale), Jane Pfitsch (Emily), Randy Redd (Dr. Bigby Denby), Ed Romanoff (Ned Brinker) and Jessica Tyler Wright (Marjorie Taylor) .Previews begin Saturday, November 1. The official opening night is Wednesday, November 19 for a limited engagement through December 7.
In January 2015, Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” directed by Austin Pendleton, will star Peter Sarsgaard – “To be, or not to be?”
Added to the season, January 9 thru Feb. 15th, is Ivan Turgenev’s “A Month in the Country” starring Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones) and Taylor Schilling (Piper Chapman on Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black).directed by Erica Schmidt.
In April, “Doctor Faustus,” by Christopher Marlowe, and directed by Andrei Belgrader will star Chris Noth – a pact with the devil brings boundless knowledge and endless gratification – ahead of its time today.
