The Madison Square Garden Company celebrated Billy Joel’s unprecedented achievement of 100 lifetime performances at The World’s Most Famous Arena with a press conference on Wednesday, July 18. As part of the press conference, MSG made an announcement about a permanent display that will serve as a tribute to Joel’s legacy.

Present were host Jim Kerr from Q104.3, along with Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, James L. Dolan (Executive Chairman/CEO of MSG), Chazz Palminteri, along with the star and recipient of this honor Bill Joel.

Joel’s 100th lifetime performance comes 40 years after his first MSG performance, on December 14, 1978, and just four and a half years after he began his legendary residency. Joel currently holds both of MSG’s performance-related records for “most consecutive performances by any artist,” currently at 53 shows, and for “most lifetime performances by any artist,” currently at 99 shows. Wednesday evening’s performance marked Joel’s 54th consecutive performance at MSG and his 100th lifetime performance at the venue.
